The Vaccination Certificate Verification (VCV) Application is a government initiative in Malaysia that allows users to authenticate COVID-19 vaccination certificates issued by the Malaysian government, as well as those recognized by other countries. Additionally, this application verifies certificates for COVID test results and recovery, as accepted by select countries.
VCV users have the option to verify these certificates through different means:
- Scanning the QR code displayed on the MySejahtera application or its equivalent used in another country.
- Scanning an electronic version of the certificate in PDF format.
- Scanning a printed paper version of the certificate.
The VCV application can verify two types of certificate QR codes:
- QR codes containing a URL that directs to a trusted server, where identity and vaccination information is stored. Internet connectivity is required for this type of verification.
- QR codes containing identity and vaccination information with a digital signature issued by a trusted entity. Internet connectivity is not required for this type of verification since VCV stores a list of trusted public keys.
The VCV application will be regularly updated to ensure the list of trusted servers and public keys remains current.
When verifying a vaccination certificate, VCV will display the result of the verification process. Identity and vaccination information will only be shown if the certificate is valid. To respect user privacy, VCV does not retain certificate information.
The current version of the VCV application is capable of verifying certificates from the following countries:
- Malaysia
- All countries accepted into the European Union (EU) Digital COVID Certificate (DCC) consortium, which includes 27 EU countries and 40 non-EU countries and jurisdictions at the time of this version's publication
- Brunei
- India
- Indonesia
- Philippines
- Syria
- Australia
